(December 13 – 12:40 ET) – Standard & Poor’s Canadian Index Operations is announcing several index changes to take effect after the close of business on December 14.

Sun Life Financial Services of Canada Inc. will be added to the S&P/TSE Canadian Financials Sector Index.

The other changes are to relative weights of index component companies. S&P says the change to the relative weights reflects the quarterly update to the float shares of various companies.

Nortel Networks Corp. will see its weight increase by 0.16% in the TSE 300, by 0.18% in the TSE 100, and by 0.22% in the S&P/TSE 60.

Alberta Energy Co. will also see its weightings increased incrementally, while Alcan Aluminium Ltd. and Trizec Hahn Corp. will have their weightings drop slightly.
