(June 5 – 17:30 ET) – The summer rally continued today; the trading was easy. Investors resisted the urge to sell in the wake of last week’s record gains.

The Dow Jones industrial average closed up 20.54 points to 10,815.30. It rode up and down all day, after adding 142 points on Friday and 496 points for the entire week.

Tech issues boosted the NASDAQ composite index. It closed up 8.38 points to 3,821.76. It also rolled from positive to negative to positive territory today. Last week, the NASDAQ climbed 608 points, its best weekly performance ever.

The Toronto Stock Exchange 300 composite index dropped 68.82 on light volume to 9679.65. Declining issues inched out advancing issues 553 to 534. Unchanged issues settled at 271. It was a turnaround day for Certicom. The company added $9.25, climbing to $82.75.

The CDNX had a heavy trading day as 47.4 million shares changed hands. Decliners and advancers finished almost even. The index added 25.15, edging to 3406.80.
