It’s a quiet week for Canadian economic data, with two reports coming on Friday.

On Thursday, Bank of Canada Governor David Dodge gives a luncheon speech in New York to the Americas Society and the Council of the Americas, on promoting sound economic policies globally and locally.

On Friday, Statistics Canada reports on the gross domestic product in January. Economists expect growth of 0.2% from the previous month.

Separately, StatsCan reports on industrial product prices in February. Economists expect a rise of 0.6% from the previous month, compared with a 0.1% slide the previous month.

South of the border

On Monday, the U.S. Commerce Department reports on new-home sales in February. Economists expect annualized sales of 990,000 homes.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Conference Board reports on consumer confidence in March. Economists expect a reading of 109, down from 112.5 in February.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Commerce Department reports on durable goods orders in February. Economists expect a 3.5% increase.

On Thursday, the U.S. Commerce Department releases final gross domestic product figures for the fourth quarter, 2006. Economists forecast annualized growth of 2.2%.

On Friday, the U.S. Commerce Department reports on personal income and spending in February. Economists expect a 0.3% increase in both.

Corporate earnings

On Wednesday, AGF Management Ltd. releases first-quarter results.
