(October 4 – 12:00 ET) –
Scotiabank is launching
three new services geared toward
small business owners and
technophiles.

Customers will be able to apply
online for a line of credit or a
term loan up to $50,000 for their
small business. “Customers will
normally receive a reply within
24 hours. As well, small business
owners who prefer to apply in
person can download the
application from the web and drop
it off with the staff at any
Scotiabank branch,” said Ron
Laursen, Scotiabank’s senior VP
of small and medium enterprise.

In response to the growing
number of clients banking online,
the bank also announced changes
to its business account fee
structure. Beginning November
1, three monthly fee schedules
will be offered to clients with a
high volume of monthly
transactions. Small business
customers can expect up to a
50% fee reduction as an incentive
to using electronic banking
services.

This fall Scotiabank also
plans a pilot project enabling
wireless phone users access to
banking and brokerage information
anywhere, anytime. Through a
partnership with Rogers Cantel
Inc.,
Scotiabank clients will be
able to conduct their banking,
get stock quotes, alerts and trade
confirmations through their Cantel
AT&T phones.

This project has been made
possible through the use of
Wireless Application Protocol
(WAP), a universal standard
adapted by financial institutions
worldwide, including most recently
Charles Schwab Canada.
