Market Regulation Services Inc. says regulators in Alberta, B.C., Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec, have approved rule amendments requiring cooperation with RS.

The rule amendments stipulate that it is an offence to impede or obstruct a market regulator in an investigation, proceeding or the exercise of a power. It also requires anyone who is subject to the jurisdiction of the market rules to respond to regulatory requests. The rule also clarifies that records that must be provided during an investigation are not limited to “records” as contemplated by the audit trail and retention requirements.

The amendments were proposed and issued for comment in August 2004, and based on comments received from the provincial regulators, RS made certain revisions.
