(March 17 – 18:00 ET) – The Members of the Winnipeg Stock Exchange have agreed to join
the Canadian Venture Exchange.
The WSE will consolidate its trading and listing services with the CDNX to
produce a slightly more comprehensive junior market. The Toronto Stock
Exchange’s Canadian Dealing Network, a quote market, will join later. The
Montreal Exchange maintains a handful of Quebec-based small caps, along with
the country’s derivatives business. The TSE’s own tougher listing requirements take effect in April and that may drive some of its issues to the CDNX too.
The WSE will now formally request that the Manitoba Securities Commission
and the province amend the Winnipeg Stock Exchange Act and other provincial
legislation to allow the deal to happen. The CDNX has been booming since its debut, attracting strong volume and running the index up relentlessly.
