In a new report Friday, CIBC World Markets tries to predict stocks that could be deleted from the S&P/TSX Index at its next quarterly rebalancing; and, those that could be added.
The report says that S&P/TSX is expected to announce the list of index additions/deletions by Sept. 15, with the changes to take effect after the close of business on Sept. 17. Forecasting index shuffles is important for some traders who hope to get a jump on the index managers, since managers that track the index have to replicate the indexes in their portfolios after the changes are made.
The report says that Bennett Environmental, Conjuchem, and Gabriel Resources no longer satisfy index maintenance requirements, and it suggests that they might be deleted from the index in the upcoming quarterly review.
As for those that could take their place, the report proposes possible inductees include: Transat A.T., Fairborne Energy, Gerdau Ameristeel, and Transcontinental (which owns Investment Executive).
