Markets are hardly moved at midday today, the S&P/TSX index is up just eight points to 6,613. Volume is predictably light at 62.4 million shares, with the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday keeping things quiet.

The strength is coming from techs, up 1.3%, and financials, which have gained 0.4%. Against this, almost everything else is down. Selling is strongest is golds, real estate, materials and utilities.

Nortel Networks continues to dominate the volume picture, gaining 2% on 11.8 million shares. Descartes Systems is stronger at midday, as is CGI Group and Celestica. Cognos is weaker, as is Ballard Power.

TD Bank is the top market cap mover today, up 4% in active trading. Bank of Montreal is down more than 1%, while CIBC is flat at midday.

AGF is up more than 4%, and CI has gained 2.7%. Fairfax Financial is up 3.2%.

In the energy group, TransCanada Pipelines is down about 1%, as is Acclaim Energy Trust. Western Oil Sands is stronger, as is First Calgary Petroleums.

But there is widespread selling of blue chips, including Noranda, Molson, Bombardier, Onex, Alcan, SNC Lavalin and Goldcorp.

The small caps are stronger at midday, with the S&P/TSX Venture index is up seven points to 948. Volume is down a bit there too, as 12.6 million shares cross the tape. Dynacor Mines is the top trader, gaining a penny to 50¢ on 712,000 shares.
