Toronto stocks closed moderately higher Tuesday, extending the TSX wining streak to seven days. The S&P/TSX composite index gained 20.22 points to finish at 7,863.69.
Seven of the 13 TSX sector indices were higher, led by rises of 1.4% in industrials and 0.6% for the golds.
CAE gained 44¢ to $5.90 after announcing a US$100-million training contract from Lockheed Martin.
Bombardier gained 4¢ to $5.92.
Research in Motion shares hit a 30-month high and closed at $62, up $1.35.
CSI Wireless stock gained almost 10%, closing at $2.03, after it reported Q3 revenues surged 72% to $15.1 million and its net loss narrowed to $572,000.
A 0.6% drop in the energy group made it the leading loser as oil and natural gas prices slipped modestly.
EnCana fell 62¢ to $44.75; Petro-Canada slipped 43¢ to $53.57.
Talisman Energy rose 24¢ to $65.04. It reported lower Q3 earnings and cash flow as its year-earlier results included the now-sold Sudan operations.
TD Bank, Royal Bank and Bank of Montreal hit new 52-week highs earlier in the trading day. Royal and BMO managed to gain, but TD lost a dime to $44.20
Industrial Alliance rose $1.28 to $40.45 after it raised its dividend by 12% and reported a 27% increase in its Q3 earnings.
Canadian mutual fund companies did not appear to be hurt by revelations of unethical and potentially fraudulent activities at several U.S. fund companies.
CI Fund Management rose 66¢ to $15.96 on heavy volume of more than 5.7 million shares, responding to rumours that it would convert to an income trust. AGF also rose strongly, up 78¢ to $18.28.
The junior S&P/TSX venture composite index closed up 14.46 points at 1591.35.
On Wall Street the Dow Jones industrial average fell 19.63 points lto close at 9,838.83. The tech-heavy Nasdaq composite index fell 9.73 points to 1,957.97.
The Canadian dollar rose 0.24 of a cent to US75.26¢ .
