(March 7 – 10:10 ET) – Computer problems are interrupting trading at the Toronto
Stock Exchange again this morning. The open was delayed by an hour.
The TSE says it detected a systems problem during the opening market process but corrective measures have been taken.
This is the third such service interruption at the TSE in the last three weeks. On February 18 the exchange closed two minutes early after a data feed problem. The following Monday a crush of opening orders clogged the TSE, causing trade confirmation problems for some firms.
The U.S. markets are enjoying heavy action this morning. The Nasdaq briefly crossed the 5,000 mark this morning, although it has since fallen off those levels. The Dow is down about 250 points, led by Proctor & Gamble whch issued an earnings warning this morning. Trading curbs are in on the downside momentum.
Later this year the TSE expects to finally complete its transition to its new trading system. In the meantime it has been struggling under huge volumes and trading action.
