(April 10 – 14:45 ET) – The Toronto Stock Exchange is celebrating Investor Education Week by hosting its second annual Investor Forum tomorrow, Tuesday, April 11, from 12:00-14:00ET at Stock Market Place. Details on the event are available on tse.com or by calling 416-947-4645.

“The TSE is pivotal to the capital markets because we bring those with capital together with those who are prepared to use it to build businesses, create jobs, make investments and accumulate savings in Canada for Canadians,” says Daniel Sullivan, chairman of the TSE . “But, in order to get to this point, the TSE must take its role as an educator very seriously.”

The TSE’s Education Programs include:
-Stock Market Place, a hands-on education centre in downtown Toronto.
Visitors can talk with guides who are former floor traders and play games and simulations that demonstrate how the markets work. You can take a virtual tour of Stock Market Place on tse.com/visitor.

-Since opening its doors in 1998, Stock Market Place has played host to 15,000 students and teachers who have visited the centre. Teachers can order a free teacher’s kit that contains learning activities to prepare their students to visit the centre. The teacher’s kit has been approved and recommended by the Ontario Curriculum Clearinghouse.

-tse.com, the TSE’s official web site, a popular gateway to investment information that registers more than 14 million “hits” each day. There are links to TSE listed companies, securities firms and regulators. One of the education features on the site is the Investment Challenge, a mock investment game allowing contestants to invest a $100,000 portfolio. Other features include a glossary, 15-minute delay quotes, and a personal portfolio feature that allows users to keep track of their stocks.

The TSE is also working to provide teachers across Canada with quality resources that will help them teach concepts of capital markets and investment. The TSE is collaborating with the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto to create a resource and national teachers’ Institute that will be offered in the summer. “Our goal is to create curriculum-based resources that are relevant and useful to teachers,” says Caroline Cakebread, the TSE’s Manager of Education Programs.
