In response to the terrorist attacks today in the United States, the Toronto Stock Exchange has closed. At the close of trading, the TSE 300 Composite Index was down 293.86 to 7,050.84.

TSE officials say they will be monitoring the situation and will issue a news release when a decision is made to resume trading.

The Canadian Venture Exchange closed, effective 10:40 a.m. ET, in conjunction with the TSE and Montreal Exchange. The CDNX index closed down 41.84 points at 2,938.61.

The Bourse de Montreal has also halted trading.
