It’s a quiet week for Canadian economic data. On the earnings calendar, AGF and RIM report quarterly earnings.
On Monday, Sheryl Kennedy, deputy governor of the Bank of Canada, addresses the 2008 annual conference of the Investment Industry Association of Canada in Banff, Alta. She will discuss real estate, mortgage markets and monetary policy.
On Friday, Statistics Canada reports on industrial product and raw materials prices for May. Economists forecast a 1.1-per-cent increase in the industrial product price index.
South of the border
On Wednesday, the U.S. Federal Reserve Board announces its decision on U.S. interest rates. Economists expect the benchmark rate to remain unchanged at 2%.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Commerce Department reports on durable goods orders for May. Economists expects no change from the previous month.
Separately, Commerce reports on new home sales in May. Economists forecast a 2.3% drop from the previous month to an annualized 514,000 homes.
On Thursday, the U.S. Commerce Department issues final data for first-quarter gross domestic product. Economists expect an annualized increase of 1%, up from 0.9%.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Labour Department reports on initial jobless claims for the week ended June 21. Economists are forecasting 377,000 claims.
As well, the U.S. National Association of Realtors releases existing home sales data for May. Sales are expected to rise 1.4% to 4.96 million units, annualized basis.
On Friday, the U.S. Commerce Department of Commerce reports on personal income and consumption in May. Economists expect incomes to have risen 0.4% and personal spending to have grown 0.6%.
Corporate earnings
On Monday, Walgreen Co. reports its third quarter results.
On Wednesday, AGF Management Ltd. reports its second-quarter results, as does Gennum Corp.
Research In Motion Ltd. releases its first-quarter results.
