On Monday, Statistics Canada releases building permits data for September. Economists forecast a decline of 3.5%, compared with a gain of 8.3% in August.

Meanwhile, the Ivey Purchasing Managers index for October is released. A reading of 56 is forecast, down from 59.9 the previous month.

On Wednesday, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. releases housing starts data for October. Economists expect annualized starts of 215,000 up from a revised figure of 209,000 the previous month

As well, Bank of Canada Deputy Governor David Longworth addresses World Hedge Funds Summit in Toronto.

On Thursday, StatsCan issues international merchandise trade data for September. A surplus of $3.4 billion is expected, compared with a surplus of $4.2-billion a month ago.

Separately, the government agency releases the new-housing price index for September. Economists expect a 0.9% increase, compared with an increase of 1.5% the previous month.

South of the border

On Tuesday, the U.S. Federal Reserve Board releases consumer credit data for September. Economists expect an increase of US$5 billion, unchanged from the previous month.

On Thursday, the U.S. Department of Labor reports on initial jobless claims for the week ended Nov. 4. Economists forecast 315,000 claims, compared with 327,000 claims a week ago.

Meanwhile, U.S. Commerce Department releases trade balance data for September. Economists forecast a US$65.8 billion deficit, compared with a $69.9 billion deficit the previous month.

Separately, Commerce reports wholesale inventories for September. Economists expect a gain of 0.7%, compared with a gain of 1.1% the previous month.

Also, the University of Michigan issues its preliminary index of consumer sentiment for November. Economists expect a reading of 93.4, down slightly from 93.6 the previous month.
