On Monday, Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney will be in Montreal to address Quebec’s financial services regulator, the Autorité des marchés financiers, about the future of financial regulation.

On Tuesday, Carney and senior deputy governor Paul Jenkins will appear before the House of Commons standing committee on finance.

On Wednesday, Carney and Jenkins will appear before the Senate’s standing committee on banking, trade and commerce.

On Thursday, StatsCan releases industrial product and raw material price indexes for August. Economists expect a monthly increase of 0.1% for industrial product prices; raw materials prices are expected to have gained 1%.

On Friday, StatsCan reports on the gross domestic product in August. Economists expect no change from August.

South of the border

On Tuesday, The U.S. Conference Board releases its consumer confidence survey for October. Economists expect a reading of 54, up from 53.1 in September.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Commerce reports on durable goods orders for September. An increase of 1% over the previous month is expected.

Separately, Commerce also reports on new home sales for September. A 2.6% increase from the previous month to 440,000 annualized sales is expected.

On Thursday, the U.S. Commerce Dept. reports on final gross domestic product data for the third quarter.

Mean while, the U.S. Department of Labour reports on initial jobless claims for the week ended Oct. 24. Economists forecast 523,000 claims, down from 531,000 a week earlier. Continuing claims for the week ended Oct. 17 will also be released.

On Friday, the U.S. Commerce Dept. releases personal spending and income data for September. A 0.1% increase in personal income is forecast. Personal spending is expected to have decreased 0.5%.

Corporate earings

On Monday, Canfor Pulp Income Fund reports third-quarter results, as does RioCan RETI, and Toromont Industries Ltd.

Indigo Books & Music Inc. reports second-quarter earnings.

On Tuesday, Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. reports third-quarter earnings, as does Rogers Communications Inc., TransAlta Corp., Ballard Power Systems Inc., and Inmet Mining Corp. reports.

Astral Media Inc. reports fourth-quarter results, as TD Ameritrade Holding Corp.

Open Text Corp. reports first-quarter earnings.

On Wednesday, Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd. reports third-quarter results, as does Maple Leaf Foods Inc., Canada Bread Co. Ltd., Canadian Oil Sands Trust, Canam Group Inc., Sherritt International Corp., Teck Resources Ltd., and TMX Group Inc.
