On Thursday, Statistics Canada reports on the industrial product and raw material price indexes for March. Economists expect industrial product prices to increase 0.5% from the previous month and raw materials to rise 2%.

Separately, StatsCan reports on the gross domestic product in February. Economists expect a drop of 0.2% from the previous month.

South of the border

On Wednesday, the U.S. Federal Reserve’s federal open market committee releases a policy statement at the close of its two-day meeting. It is expected to keep its key interest rate at a record low near zero.

The U.S. Commerce Department reports final figures on the gross domestic product for the first quarter. Economists expect an annualized drop of 4.9%.

On Thursday, the U.S. Department of Commerce reports on personal income and spending in March. Economists forecast income will fall 0.2%, while personal spending is expected to drop 0.1%.

The U.S. Labour Department reports on initial jobless claims for the week ended April 25 and continuing claims for the week ended April 18.

On Friday, the U.S. Institute of Supply Management reports its manufacturing index. Economists expect it to rise to 38 in April, compared with 36.3 in March.

The U.S. Department of Commerce reports on factory orders in March. Economists expect a 0.7% drop from the previous month.

On Monday, Jean Coutu Group reports its fourth-quarter results.

On Tuesday, Petro-Canada reports first-quarter results, as does Shoppers Drug Mart Corp., TransAlta Corp., QLT Inc. reports, Parkland Income Fund, Deutsche Bank AG, and E*Trade Financial Corp.

On Wednesday, Rogers Communications Inc. reports first-quarter results, as does Maple Leaf Foods Inc., Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd., Barrick Gold Corp., Inmet Mining Corp., Canadian Oil Sands Trust, Canam Group Inc., Catalyst Paper Corp., Ballard Power Systems Inc., Riocan REIT, and Visa Inc. reports.
