Traders are looking ahead to Canada’s employment report for March in a holiday-shortened week.
The week’s economic and business news calendar is light, as Passover starts Monday evening and all markets will be closed Friday for Good Friday.
On the economic calendar, Statistics Canada will release the value of building permits for February on Tuesday.
On Thursday, StatsCan unviels the highly-anticipated unemployment report for March, as well as housing starts for March. Last week’s unexepectedly strong U.S. jobs report showed gave evidence that the U.S. economy is finally starting to create new jobs.
Financial markets, banks and government offices are closed for Good Friday.
South of the border, the ISM survey of the U.S. service sector is released Monday.
Thursday wraps up with the weekly initial jobless claims report, the release of the Producer Price Index, and wholesale trade figures.
In earnings news, Cogeco Cable Inc. reports on Monday.
Wednesday will bring reports from from Quebec-based grocery chain Metro Inc., technology firm Research In Motion and gold miner Wheaton River Minerals.
