Finance Minister Paul Martin announced that the G7 ministers will meet in Halifax on June 14-15.

Martin, who is chair of the G-7 finance ministers this year, made the announcement in Halifax today, where he is participating in an Atlantic mayors’ conference. “This historic and vibrant city is the ideal setting for this important international meeting,” Martin said. The two-day meeting will be held at Halifax’s World Trade and Convention Centre.

In addition to discussing the global economy, the finance ministers will address ways to combat the financing of terrorism, the prevention and resolution of international financial crises and how best to fight global poverty. “The Halifax meeting will be the last ministerial gathering before the G-8 Summit in Kananaskis,” Martin said. “For that reason it will play a significant role in advancing the G-7/8 process.”

In addition to Canada, the G-7 includes France, Italy, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. The finance ministers of Spain, which holds the Presidency of the European Union, and Russia will also participate in some discussions.
