Higher gas prices lifted inflation for all 25 European Union countries to 2.2% in August, the European Union’s statistic agency said Friday.
Eurostat said inflation rose from 2.1% in July. The rate for the 12 countries that use the euro currency stayed stable at 2.2%.
Transportation fuels were mainly to blame for other price increases last month, followed by higher charges for package holidays as airlines levied fuel surcharges to cover the increased cost of oil.
