The TSE and CDNX will remain closed today.
“We are monitoring this situation and will review our decision on a day-to-day basis,” said Barbara Stymiest, president and CEO of the TSE. “This closing allows our market participants to assess their damage.” A decision with respect to trading tomorrow will be made before the close of business today.
Trading on the Canadian Venture Exchange will remain closed today to allow market participants to assess the impact of the situation. “We continue to monitor the situation and will review our decision before the close of business today and, if required, on a day-by-day basis,” said Bill Hess, president, CDNX. “With the exception of the close of trading, it’s business as usual at CDNX.”
U.S. markets remain closed pending further notice, although one report suggests that SEC chairman Harvey Pitt wants U.S. markets to open tomorrow.
No flight arrivals or departures are scheduled at Pearson Airport in Toronto for the time being. Pearson received 19 diverted flights as a result of the closing of U.S. airspace yesterday.
