(September 16 – 09:10 ET) – The
U.S. Senate’s Permanent
Subcommittee on Investigations will
be holding hearings on the business
of day trading, starting today
at 09:30 ET in Washington, D.C.
Arthur Levitt, chairman of the
U.S. Securities and Exchange
Commission is scheduled to
testify, along with Peter
Hildreth, New Hampshire’s director
of securities regulation and
president of the North American
Securities Administrators
Association, Mary Schapiro,
president of the National
Association of Securities Dealers
regulatory function, and Saul
Cohen from the Electronic Traders
Association.
Day trading, which remains
rather limited in Canada at this
point, came to world attention in
the summer after a killing rampage
at two Atlanta day trading
offices. A report out of the NASAA
later criticized the day trading
industry for regulatory abuses and
the low chance of success.
