(November 28 – 14:25 ET) – Trading on the Canadian Venture Exchange was suspended for about three hours today, due to a cable cut in Sprint Canada’s network.
Sprint provides access to the exchange’s trading system across the country. Sprint also provides CDNX with a backup network; however, that network also failed.
CDNX officials noticed a problem with trading at approximately 10:00 ET when the exchange was unable to receive any orders from central and eastern Canada.
Once CDNX established that there was a risk of unfair trading taking place, it suspended trading effective 10:25 ET.
Sprint has rectified the problem and CDNX was able to commence pre-opening at 12:45 ET, with full trading resuming at 13:45 ET.
