(November 10 – 09:35 ET) – Merger mania in Canada’s big law firms continues today. Toronto’s Fasken Campbell Godfrey and Martineau Walker of Montreal have announced a deal.
The new firm will be known as Fasken Martineau. It will formally come into being on February 1, 2000, with offices in Toronto, Montreal, Québec City, New York and London, UK. The combined firm will have 368 lawyers.
“This merger is the natural culmination of a successful relationship which the two firms have had since 1986 in the Canadian market and internationally, as evidenced by our office in London and the opening of our office in New York,” says Alan Schwartz QC, Fasken’s managing partner.
This deal comes hot on the heels of a merger between Ottawa’s Gowling, Strathy & Henderson and Calgary’s Code Hunter. Last month Tory Hyathe was created when Canada’s Tory Tory DesLauriers & Binnington and a New York-based firm merged.
