The value of building permits increased 15.3% to $6.6 billion in September after two months of declines.

Statistics Canada attributes the gain to increases in both the residential and non-residential sectors.

The value of residential permits rose for a second straight month — by 8.3% to $3.9 billion with Ontario and British Columbia leading the way.

Municipalities issued $2.7 billion in non-residential permits, up 26.7%, mostly from higher construction intentions for commercial buildings in Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia.

StatsCan reports the total value of building permits increased in five provinces, led by Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec.
