(January 29 – 12:00 ET) – ScotiaMcLeod has unveiled its 2001 list of recommended mutual funds for investors. This year’s list — with a total of 74 funds — includes 25 new funds and four new asset classes.
“As in previous years, we have found some true hidden gems for this year’s recommended list,” said Ian Filderman, director of mutual funds, ScotiaMcLeod. “We expect that some of this year’s selections will build on the success we’ve had in the past as being the first to recognize superior and often award-winning funds and management teams. Examples from prior years include the AGF American Growth Class, first added in January 1997 and the BPI Global Equity Fund, first added in January 1998, both of which have been very successful and increasingly popular.”
Unlike many other fund lists that are frequently revised, ScotiaMcLeod releases its list once a year focusing on funds that they believe will benefit investors over time.
The investment dealer says a long term focus gives it the ability to see beyond the short-term numbers, both good and bad, when making and maintaining recommendations. It is this long-term focus that has allowed ScotiaMcLeod to maintain its long-standing recommendation on the Mackenzie Ivy Canadian Fund in 2000. Even after a challenging 1999, this conservative fund did exactly what ScotiaMcLeod expected of it, producing outstanding results in 2000, a year of very difficult market conditions.
