Investors Group has announced that the Investors Retirement Mutual Fund will be open to non-registered money on June 4, 2001, pending regulatory approval.

Launched in 1972, the Investors Retirement Mutual Fund was designed to provide steady, long-term growth for those invested in Registered Retirement Savings Plans and other tax-deferred investment vehicles, including RRIFs, RESPs and pension plans. Its investment mandate is to invest in larger, “blue-chip” Canadian companies using a more value-oriented investment style.

Since the Fund began, says IG, there have been significant changes in tax legislation, including the ability of RRSPs and similar tax-deferred plans, to invest up to 30% of their assets in foreign property investments. And the industry now offers a wide selection of products available for investment by these plans. This has enabled investors who own registered plans to seek much greater diversification opportunities for their investments, says the company.

The Fund has a one-year performance of over 20% and has been a first quartile performer during the same period. Investors Retirement Mutual Fund is one of seven Canadian equity funds in the Investors Group Master Series of funds. The Fund provides long-term capital growth by investing in common shares of large established Canadian companies.
