The Mutual Fund Dealers Association of Canada has appointed its inaugural board of directors for its investor protection arm.

Don Leslie is the chairman of MFDA Investor Protection Corp and a public director. He is the former president of the Canadian Investor Protection Fund.

Martin Friedland, O.C., Q.C., is also appointed as a public director. Professor Friedland is a former Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto, as well as a former commissioner of the Ontario Securities Commission.

Bob Munroe, of Vancouver, is appointed as an industry director. Munroe, a vice president of Assante Financial Management Ltd., has been the president of FPC Investments for the last 15 years.

“The IPC is fortunate to be led by Mr. Leslie whose past experience with the Canadian Investor Protection Fund will prove invaluable as the IPC seeks the necessary regulatory approval to offer protection to clients of MFDA Members” said MFDA president and CEO, Joe Oliver. “We are pleased with the superior quality of directors who have been appointed to the board of the IPC.
