Mackenzie Financial Corp. is launching the Mackenzie Universal Growth Trends Capital Class. The fund is part of Mackenzie’s tax-efficient Capital Class structure.
Alliance Capital Management — one of the world’s largest investment managers with assets over US $400 billion — will be advisor to the fund.
“With Mackenzie Universal Growth Trends Capital Class fund, investors will be able to capitalize on growing trends in a number of industries while harnessing the specialized expertise and depth of research that distinguishes the team at Alliance,” said Phil Cunningham, president of Mackenzie Financial Services Inc.
The fund focuses on industry rather than geography. The objective of the fund is to seek long-term growth of capital through investment in a global portfolio of equity securities allocated among specific industry sectors (sub-portfolios).
Based on their growth potential, the percent allocation among the sub-portfolios is determined by Michael Baldwin, senior vice president and associate director of research at Alliance, in conjunction with Alliance’s senior research analysts responsible for various industry sectors.
Sectors included in the fund will change as each trend or industry sector’s growth potential matures and new trends emerge in different industry sectors. Senior Alliance research analysts, who are specialists in a particular sector, select stocks with a focus on the “best ideas” in each industry.
The fund usually will hold between 100 to 130 stocks in its portfolio. These stocks are typically industry market leaders with above average earnings growth in developed countries.
Currently, the fund invests in six dynamic global growth industries: communications and technology, health care, financial services, infrastructure, consumer growth and energy. Respectively, the senior research analysts managing the six sector sub-portfolios are Janet Walsh, Norm Fidel, Frank Suozzo, Suzanne Lent, Gina Griffin and Thomas Schmitt. These senior research analysts bring an average of 15 years industry experience to this fund.
“Our philosophy has always been to stress fundamental research as the cornerstone of the investment process,” said Baldwin, “We identify the best growth companies in the best growth industries.”
Mackenzie is also offering Mackenzie Universal RSP Growth Trends Fund — an RSP eligible version whose returns will be linked to the investment returns of the Capital Class fund.
