Toronto-based Brompton Funds Management Ltd. Thursday announced the appointment of Laura Lau as senior vice president and senior portfolio manager.

She joins Brompton with over 18 years of experience in financial services, most recently as a senior portfolio manager at Sentry Select Capital Corp. where she managed or co-managed over $500 million in resource investments including the NCE Flow-Through Funds.

As senior portfolio manager, Lau will be responsible for managing the portfolio of our latest offering, the Brompton 2012 Flow-Through Limited Partnership which filed its preliminary prospectus on Feb. 28, 2012. The investment objective is to seek to achieve capital appreciation and to provide tax benefits for limited partners by investing in a diversified portfolio of flow-through shares of resource companies. Tax deductions for 2012 are expected to be 100% of the initial investment.

In 2011, Lau received the Brendan Wood TopGun Investment Mind Award and was also the co-manager of a resource fund that won the 2011 Canadian Lipper Award for best performing fund over one year in the natural resource category. She is a regular guest on BNN and has been frequently quoted in national media. She has a BASc in Industrial Engineering and holds the CFA designation.
