Investors Group today announced the forthcoming launch of new mandates focused on one of the fastest growing economies in the world.
Investors Greater China Fund will invest in listed companies trading in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Chinese stock exchanges that derive a significant portion of their revenues from the rapidly expanding growth region of Greater China.
“China presents a tremendous potential growth story,” said John Wiltshire, senior vp, product and financial planning, “and we’re pleased to be able to offer clients the opportunity to benefit from the expansion and economic strength of the region through a fund as part of a more broadly diversified portfolio.”
“Overall, China’s strong economic growth has been driven by robust exports and capital investment growth-all of which have benefited from low domestic interest rates and the ongoing strong demand for Chinese manufactured goods,” said Tim Leung, a member of the portfolio management team of I.G. Investment Management (Hong Kong) Ltd., which will advise the new fund from offices located in Hong Kong and Dublin.
“The fund intends to invest in those companies benefiting from the strong growth of the region with a ‘growth at a reasonable price’ philosophy. We will be looking for well-managed companies with good growth prospects and reasonable valuations. The investment process will include valuation and earnings growth screening, comprehensive company research, and both industry and sector risk control measures.”
Leung himself has many years of experience with Investors Group’s other Asian and Pacific Rim mandates, and is currently the lead portfolio manager for the Investors Pacific International Fund.
A corporate class version of the fund (named Investors Greater China Class) will also be launched. The new class version will have the same portfolio management team and investment objective as the Investors Greater China Fund. Subject to regulatory approval, both mandates are expected to be available mid-summer 2006.
