Fidelity Investments Canada Ltd. has launched the Fidelity Global Opportunities Fund, an aggressive global equity fund intended to complement and enhance core global holdings.

The fund’s mandate is to seek high growth opportunities around the world. It will hold a portfolio of approximately 120 stocks. The fund is free to make concentrated investments in companies worldwide.

This new opportunistic fund complements Fidelity International Portfolio Fund, Fidelity’s broadly diversified global equity fund. Fidelity International Portfolio Fund has approximately 500 holdings at any time, and aims to minimize volatility.

“Fidelity Global Opportunities Fund is the ideal choice for an investor who might be seeking more diversification than is offered by a region or country specific fund, and is prepared to take a moderately higher level of risk than their core global investments typically pursue,” said Wilfred Vos, vice president, Product Development.

The portfolio managers on Fidelity Global Opportunities Fund have a combined 50 years of Fidelity investment management experience. Bill Fink, a 31-year Fidelity veteran, is the lead portfolio manager.

The fund will be comprised of two portfolios — U.S. equity, and World ex-U.S. equity — and will be weighted according to the benchmark MSCI All Country Free index.

Bahaa Fam will manage the U.S. portfolio while Kevin McCarey will manage the World ex-U.S. portfolio. Fam has been with Fidelity for eight years and currently manages a number of institutional U.S. equity portfolios.. McCarey is a 16-year Fidelity veteran and currently manages two funds for U.S. investors, Fidelity Advisor International Capital Appreciation Fund and Fidelity Aggressive International Fund.

The fund is also available in an RSP-eligible version.
