Fidelity Investments Canada Ltd. is now offering Fidelity Capital Structure Corp. Comprising 18 capital classes diversified by region, sector and asset category, the structure enables investors to switch between classes without triggering immediate capital gains taxes.
Also known as umbrella or corporate structure, or tax efficient funds, capital classes are generally suitable for investment within a non-registered plan. Capital classes have steadily grown in popularity over the past several years.
Wilfred Vos, Fidelity’s vice president of Product Development said today, “Investors should never allow their investment strategy to be driven solely by tax considerations. However, as they work with their financial advisors to chart long-term investing plans, investors need to think about whether they will want to periodically re-balance the non-registered portion of their portfolio as their life situation or market conditions change. If the answer to this is ‘yes’ — and we know most people’s lives and investing needs do change over time — then capital classes enable them to make these changes without triggering capital gains taxes. Now they can make this choice with classes from the world’s largest mutual fund manager.”
