TSX Group Inc. today named Thomas Kloet as chief executive officer.

Kloet has spent the last five years as the senior executive vp and COO of Fimat USA, LLC and its successor company, Newedge USA, LLC and, prior to that, was the CEO of Singapore Exchange Ltd.

Kloet, 50, is expected to start his position in Toronto on July 14. He will also become a member of the board of TSX Group.

“Tom brings a very impressive track record of success in a number of key areas and we believe he is the right person to drive the future of our new integrated TMX Group,” says Wayne Fox, chairman of TSX Group.

“Our Board came to a unanimous decision on Tom,” Fox adds.

On May 1, TSX Group completed its business combination with Montreal Exchange Inc. Shareholders of TSX Group will vote on a company name change to TMX Group Inc. on June 11. The combination of the two companies provides the organization with a new vision for the future of the Canadian capital markets.

TSX Group has been looking for a CEO since Richard Nesbitt unexpectedly announced his departure early this year to head CIBC World Markets.

In his role at commodity derivatives brokerage Newedge, Kloet is responsible for management of the firm’s major operating departments in the American zone, including operations, finance, risk management, information technology and client services.

At Singapore Exchange Ltd. (SGX) he led the exchange through its transformation from a mutual utility to a commercial entity. He led SGX through its initial public offering and listing on its own exchange in November, 2000.

Prior to this, Kloet was senior managing director for ABN AMRO, Inc., the U.S. investment banking unit of ABN AMRO Bank, NV, where he was responsible for all operating activity of the global derivatives business and managing subsidiary brokerage companies in Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Sydney.

Previous to ABN AMRO, Kloet served as COO at Credit Agricole Futures Inc. in Chicago and as an executive officer of its parent, Segespar Capital Members, Inc.

Kloet was an elected member of the board of directors of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) from 1996 until he assumed his position at SGX.

In addition to his past board memberships at SGX and CME, Kloet currently serves on the board of CBOE Futures Exchange, Inc. and National Futures Association. He is a past board member of the Chicago Stock Exchange.

A certified public accountant, Kloet is a member of AICPA and the Illinois CPA Society. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Iowa in 1980. Kloet is married with two children.
