Julius Baer Investment Management LLC is trying to build its institutional business in Canada.

The firm today announced that it has hired Jeffrey Horbal as first vice president and director, Institutional Investments. He joined the firm effective October 2.

Horbal, who will be based in Toronto, will be responsible for further developing the institutional investment management business in Canada reporting to Tony Williams, CEO of JBIM.

Horbal brings over 17 years of professional experience, most recently as vice president, relationship manager with Fidelity Investments Canada Ltd.

“We continue to build upon our distribution efforts in Canada, offering our U.S.-based investment management services to the institutional market,” stated Williams. “We are excited to have Jeff join the JBIM team to expand the opportunities available to institutional clients across Canada. Our expertise in global equity and fixed income investing provides attractive diversification options for Canadian institutions. Currently, JBIM manages approximately US$1 billion for various public and corporate clients in Canada.”
