The Montreal Economic Institute (MEI) announced on Wednesday the appointment of former federal finance minister Joe Oliver as distinguished senior fellow.
The former Conservative minister will participate in research projects, including those on public finances and natural resources.
“Mr. Oliver will among other things act as a media spokesperson, being perfectly bilingual, and will co-sign certain publications,” says Michel Kelly-Gagnon, president and CEO of the MEI, in a statement.
Oliver is originally from Montreal. Elected in 2011 as Conservative MP for the riding of Eglinton-Lawrence, in Ontario, he successively served as Minister of Natural Resources and Minister of Finance.
A long-time investment banker, Oliver served as executive director of the Ontario Securities Commission and president and CEO of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada.
Oliver holds a bachelor of civil law from McGill University. Member of the Quebec Bar, he also holds a master of business administration from Harvard Business School.
