Barry Myers, a chartered accountant in both Canada and South Africa, has joined the investment management practice of the securities and capital markets group of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP.
Myers, who joins BLG’s Toronto office as a senior advisor, brings three decades of senior-management experience which he gathered while working with PricewaterhouseCoopers’ financial services industry group, where he developed a highly specialized knowledge of both Canadian and U.S. securities legislation relating to the investment-management industry.
“Barry brings an unrivalled reputation to the firm and adds a deep layer of expertise and versatility to the Investment Management arm of our Securities and Capital Markets practice,” says Sean Weir, national managing partner of BLG.
“With his expertise in IPOs and mergers and acquisitions in the investment industry, along with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s mutual-fund accounting and regulatory requirements, he further strengthens BLG as one of the country’s pre-eminent investment and wealth-management firms,” Weir adds.
Myers, elected as a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario in 2000, has worked with the Ontario Securities Commission where he served on its special Investment Funds Steering Group on Fund Management, Governance and Conflicts of Interest. He also chaired two Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants task forces on Financial Reporting by Investment Funds.
With offices in six major Canadian cities, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP is a leading Canadian full-service law firm.
