Minister of Finance Ralph Goodale announced the appointment of Gilles Lepage, of Caraquet, New Brunswick, as a director of the Bank of Canada.

Since 1994, Lepage has served as president and chief executive officer of Mouvement des caisses populaires acadiennes, a New Brunswick-based financial institution that primarily serves the province’s Acadian community. He also serves on the boards of directors of numerous charitable organizations, including Literacy New Brunswick, the Canadian Unity Council and the Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival.

Lepage is replacing Aldéa Landry of New Brunswick, who is stepping down after serving as a member of the Bank’s board.

“Gilles Lepage is an outstanding addition to the Bank of Canada’s Board of Directors,” Goodale said. “His extensive background in the financial services industry and his strong track record of community service make him particularly well suited to take on this challenging role.”
