The latest warning bulletin from the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions highlights an unapproved insurance company doing business on the Internet.

OSFI warns that a company known as Royal and Sun Alliance is operating a site offering insurance and loans at http://royalandsunalliance.20m.com.

The regulator says that the firm is not connected with Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Company of Canada; which is a legitimate insurer.

Warning notices publish the names of firms that have been brought to OSFI’s attention through some form of notice, inquiry or complaint. It says that if companies named in the warnings are operating in Canada, they may be violating provisions of the Bank Act, other federal financial institution legislation, other federal legislation, or provincial legislation.
