A preliminary prospectus has been filed for an investment trust that would invest in the world’s publicly traded stock exchanges.

According to the prospectus, the Stock Exchange Sector Fund “has been created to provide investors with the opportunity to invest in an actively managed portfolio of publicly traded equity securities of certain of the world’s stock, commodities and derivatives exchanges.”

“There are various factors currently affecting this industry that Quadravest Capital Management Inc., the trust’s investment manager, believes make it poised for continued growth, including: the potential consolidation of industry players; growth in trading volumes; growth in specialized trading, such as futures, derivatives and energy trading; more efficient electronic trading replacing open outcry trading; the transition from seat holder ownership to public companies.”

The list of likely portfolio companies includes: CBOT Holdings Inc., International Securities Exchange Inc., Chicago Mercantile Exchange Holdings Inc., London Stock Exchange PLC, Deutsche Börse AG, The Nasdaq Stock Market Inc., Euronext N.V., NYSE Group Inc., IntercontinentalExchange Inc. and TSX Group Inc.

Up to 20% of the net asset value may also be invested in equity securities of other companies that are expected to be involved directly or indirectly in exchange markets or trading.
