(November 18 – 11:05 ET) – The Life Education Committee of the Canadian Insurance Self Regulatory Organization and the Canadian Council of Insurance Regulators have agreed to proceed with a new approach to life insurance training in Canada.
This approach is detailed in a report preparedby the Life Education Committee of CISRO. The report proposes to establish proficiency standards to equip life insurance agents throughout Canada – except Quebec – and the three territories for the changing marketplace in the new millennium.
The report which CISRO and CCIR support proposes a number of core recommendations, including:
-The introduction of a single-step licensing process.
-The introduction of formal education and pre-licensing training course pre-requisites.
-The introduction of an enhanced qualifying examination.
-More options for program delivery.
The report also recommends that an advisory committee be established for the periodic review of the standards and to assess programs which are seeking regulatory recognition.
