Laurier Student Investment Fund (LSIF) will be holding its second annual investment conference at Wilfrid Laurier University (WLU) in Waterloo, Ont. on April 8.

Presented by Toronto-based wealth management firm Gluskin Sheff + Associates Inc., and partnering with Capitalize for Kids, a not-for-profit, LSIF will be donating all conference proceeds to high-priority needs at the Hospital for Sick Children, in Toronto.

At the conference, WLU’s top finance students will be gathering to hear prominent Laurier alumni and well-regarded industry professionals talk about their investment process and ideas.

Speakers include: Ryan Marr, analyst and portfolio manager, Gluskin Sheff + Associates; Greg Dean, Principal and Portfolio Manager, Cambridge Global Asset Management; Brendan Rowaan, equity analyst, OMERS Capital Markets; and Patrick Zabek, analyst, Turtle Creek Asset Management.

Managing a portfolio of approximately $850,000, LSIF combines the learning experience of a real-world buyside investment firm, along with the academic rigour of a senior level university course. Since its inception, LSIF has grown its assets by 15% a year, outperforming its benchmark, the S&P TSX Total Return Index, by 7.8% while maintaining less portfolio risk. The fund has grown from $126,000 to $850,000 with no additional investment outside of initial funding.
