New York venture capitalists, private equity investors and financial institutions will meet with selected entrepreneurs from Quebec, as they pursue their cross-border effort to build partnerships with U.S. investors.

Sponsored by the government of Quebec, “Venturing across Borders” will address an array of topics facing the VC industry, providing insights into its VC landscape, taxation and legal issues. U.S. venture capitalists will discuss their experiences investing north of the border. Breakout sessions will feature brief presentations from promising biotech and IT/telecom companies based in Quebec. The meeting is scheduled for February 13-14.

“Quebec is rapidly becoming the venture capital hub of Canada,” said Pauline Marois, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Quebec. “More venture capital deals are done in Quebec than elsewhere in Canada, and Quebec-based venture capitalists hold almost half of the venture capital currently invested in Canada.”

Marois and John Wall, president of Nasdaq International, will be the keynote speakers at Nasdaq MarketSite in Times Square. Nasdaq is one of Quebec’s partners in the conference. On Feb. 14 a full-day session of presentations, panel discussions and private meetings between Quebec companies and venture capitalists will be held at The Parker Meridien Hotel.

“Quebec, with its favorable climate for technology business, is important to Nasdaq’s global strategy,” Wall said. “The growing presence of U.S. venture capitalists is a positive development. We expect to see these partnerships increase as companies move into later-round financing.”
