(February 23) —Trimark Investment Management Inc. today announced a toll-free line, 1-877-730-8489, to assist the approximately 230,000 Canadians who are expected to receive pay-equity payments from the government as early as April.
The hotline provides callers with an opportunity to ask questions to learn more about their options, and order tax and investment.
In October 1999, federal government employees won a 16-year court decision upholding an earlier Canadian Human Rights Tribunal ruling, which argued that employees in female-dominated categories were underpaid compared to men doing similar work, and should be eligible for retroactive payments with interest. As a result, thousands of Canadians, primarily women, will receive equalization payments from the government this year.
