Thomson Financial has acquired privately held Macdonald & Associates Ltd., one of the leading sources on the Canadian venture capital and private equity industries.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Thomson Financial will integrate the Macdonald business into its investment banking group to enhance the offerings available to the Canadian market.

The firm’s founder, president and CEO Mary Macdonald, will continue to run the business, reporting directly to Debra Walton, global managing director for investment banking for Thomson Financial. “Our commitment to the private equity marketplace has never been stronger and this acquisition allows us to build on our market-leading position in private equity workflow solutions,” said Walton. “Mary Macdonald’s experience and relationships will be key to further expanding Thomson Financial’s footprint in the Canadian private equity and broader investment banking marketplace.”

Macdonald founded her firm in 1985. Its flagship product is the VCReporter. “VCReporter is a natural complement to Thomson Venture Economics existing market leading assets,” said Gemma Postlethwaite, Thomson Financial’s vice president investment banking, in charge of its global private equity business.
