(January 25 – 14:30 ET) – The Group Division of Sun Life Financial Group Division has launched a paperless claims payment option available to members of group insurance plans.

For the first time in Canada, plan members can choose to have the payment of their medical and dental claims deposited directly to their bank account and receive notification of their claims payment more quickly than ever.

The 700,000 plan members with access to Sun Life Financial’s Member Service Web site now have the option to bypass the paper explanation of benefit that is traditionally mailed to them.

Members who choose the paperless option receive an e-mail message as soon as their claim is processed prompting them to sign on to the secure member site to view their claim payment details. Payments are deposited to the bank account of their choice making the entire payment process paperless. Claim information and history are consolidated and can be viewed online by plan members at any time.

As an early participant in this new electronic option, Kevin Dougherty, vice president, Group Insurance received notification of his claim payment and the electronic deposit to his bank account within 24 hours of his dental appointment. “We’re very excited about this paperless option. It truly redefines the level and ease of service that plan members can expect to receive,” he said.

“It’s part of our overall commitment to provide plan members with Internet-based services, unparalleled in the industry” said Mr. Dougherty. “Last year we launched the most comprehensive transaction site available for group plan members in Canada, allowing them one-stop access to both employee benefit services and group retirement services. The feedback from members has been tremendous.”
