(August 15 – 12:05 ET) – Sun Life Assurance Co. of Canada is launching a new Internet-based employee benefits service. It plans to roll out the service to more than 1 million Canadians. The insurer is offering the new service to employer-sponsored group benefit plans administered by Sun Life.
Sun Life says it is the first insurance carrier to provide such a comprehensive transaction site for members of employee benefit plans. The company believes the service will provide greater convenience for plan members and faster access to their benefits.
Features of service include enhanced personal plan statements, direct access to member information for review and updating purposes, recent claim payment details, Health Spending Account (HSA) balances, Vision care amounts available and Dental Recall information.
Sun Life says plan members will also have the ability to enter banking information for electronic fund transfers via the Internet. In addition, plan members with a Sun Life Financial group retirement services account have access to their fund information.
“In the past, plan members had limited access to their benefits information through traditional channels, such as their Human Resources department or the insurer’s call centres. The Internet allows us to expand this access to anyone, anywhere, and personalize their service experience to a new level,” says Marcel Gingras, executive vice president, Canadian national office, Sun Life Financial. “Plan members who participated in our pilot launch, were overwhelmingly enthusiastic about the convenience and scope of service. And this is only the beginning.”
