(December 14 – 11:35 ET) – Seven individuals had submitted their candidacy to fill the position of president of the Mouvement des caisses Desjardins. They include:

1) Alban D’Amours, Mouvement des caisses Desjardins Inspector and Auditor General.
2) Madeleine Lapierre, President of the Fédération des caisses populaires Desjardins de Richelieu-Yamaska. Mrs. Lapierre currently heads a family-owned management business.
3) Jocelyn Proteau, President and CEO of the Fédération des caisses populaires Desjardins de Montréal et de l’Ouest-du-Québec.
4) Michel Rouleau, President of the Fédération des caisses populaires Desjardins de Québec.
5) André Roy, President of the Fédération des caisses populaires Desjardins de l’Estrie. Mr. Roy is a professor on the Faculty of Management at the University of Sherbrooke.
6) Pierre Tardif, Notary and Member of the Board of Directors of the Fédération des caisses populaires Desjardins de Montréal et de l’Ouest-du- Québec.
7) Michel Thérien, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Desjardins-Laurentian Financial Corporation.

On February 19, 2000, the members of the electoral college – composed of the members of the boards of directors, boards of audit and ethics, general managers of the federations of the Desjardins caisses in Québec, the president of the Mouvement and the Confédération president and Chief Operating Officer, for a total of 239 persons – will elect the new president. The new president will officially take office on March 25 when the current president, Mr. Claude Béland, steps down.

The mandate for the presidency of the Mouvement Desjardins is eight years, or two consecutive four-year mandates.
