(September 13 – 17:40 ET) – The second meeting of G-20 finance ministers and central bank governors will be in Montréal on October 24-25, the Department of Finance announced, today.

The Montréal meeting will focus on reducing vulnerability to financial crises:

  • appropriate exchange rate arrangements;
  • prudent external debt management;
  • private sector involvement in crisis prevention and resolution; and
  • implementation of international standards and codes in key areas, including transparency, data dissemination and financial sector policy.

The G-20 was created in September 1999 and Martin was chosen to serve as chairman for the first two years. The inaugural G-20 ministerial meeting took place in Berlin in December 1999.
