Private equity fund Second City Capital Partners has announced that Richard Osborn has joined the firm as partner.

Osborn will focus on deal generation and portfolio management for companies based in Canada and the Western United States. He will be based in Vancouver.

“We are particularly fortunate to have Richard joining our team. Richard is well known to entrepreneurs and investors in Canada and the U.S. and will help to attract and evaluate quality investment opportunities across various industries” said Sam Belzberg, chairman of Second City, in realese.

His addition strengthens the Second City Capital Partners’ Investment team in Vancouver. In addition to Osborn and Belzberg, the team also includes Chris Wallace and CFO Johnny Ciampi. Belzberg and Ciampi also lead activities for Gibralt Capital, a special situation and real estate focused investment company that continues to invest across North America.

Second City Capital Partners was officially launched in 2004 with over $US100 million in committed capital.

The fund invests in both private and public middle market companies and investments are typically made in the form of equity or equity-like instruments, mezzanine loans, and bridge loans.

Prior to joining Second City, Osborn was a managing partner with Greenstone Venture Partners, an institutional venture capital fund he co-founded. He led investments across the IT sector in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. Prior to founding Greenstone, Osborn was investment manager for two venture capital funds within the Business Development Bank of Canada, with a combined $200 million commitment. He has degrees from UBC and Queen’s University.
