Chicago-based Northern Trust Tuesday announced that Arti Sharma has joined as head of The Northern Trust Company, Canada.

Based in Toronto, Sharma is responsible for all of Northern Trust’s operations in the Canadian market. She was previously a principal with consulting firm Mercer.

“We’ve experienced significant growth and success in Canada, and under Arti Sharma’s leadership, we will continue to build on that momentum,” said Northern Trust chairman and CEO, Frederick Waddell. “Arti has an accomplished history of business growth and building strong client relationships, and we are thrilled to have her join Northern Trust.”

The firm notes that Sharma was responsible for the growth and development of Mercer’s custody practice. Before that, she was senior vice president at Thomas Murray North America, where she was the first regional head for North America as part of its global expansion. She has also worked at CIBC Mellon in executive management and sales positions.
